Raleigh, NC 27629 ![]() 919-876-5795 LegionRaleigh.com webmaster@legionraleigh.com The American Legion Post 1 is committed to the community and we are inspired by the rich history of those veterans who spearheaded the establishment of this great organization. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide. The American Legion Post 1 is organized under District 11, Division III of The American Legion, Department of North Carolina. The American Legion Post 1 is located in Raleigh North Carolina in a working class community in what is commonly called North Raleigh. With nearly 900 members the post has veterans that served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Beirut Lebanon and the Persian Gulf. Under the leadership of Commander Anthony Bonapart The American Legion Post 1 accomplished significant milestones during the 2007 - 2008 year. We are major contributors and participants in Veterans Job Fairs, phone cards given to the USO for traveling troops, major sponsor of bingo at the Durham VA and yearly awards ceremonies that honor Firemen and Police Officers of the Year.
